Bleacher Reports is reporting that the world’s largest silk producer, France, is nearing the end of its golden era.
According to the International Trade Commission, France’s exports of French silk last year rose by more than 75 percent compared to 2015.
The rise in exports coincided with the onset of a period of strong Chinese demand for French silk, which prompted a surge in imports.
As a result, French silk prices plummeted and many producers are struggling to maintain their margins.
However, it is unlikely that French silk will ever be the same again.
